The Rain on Rooftop Road
Juno turns uneven roof rain into a slow path for bedtime listening.

Read together at your own pace. Pausing, rereading, or stopping is always okay.
Rain tapped the roof in too many rhythms. Fast drops struck the vent. Slow drops slid from a branch. A gutter gurgled as if it were trying to speak with water in its mouth.
Juno imagined each sound living on Rooftop Road. The fast drops were bicycles, the slow drops were walkers, and the gutter was a round blue bus stopping at every corner.
She followed only one sound at a time. First the bicycles, then the walkers, then the bus. When thunder sounded far away, Dad checked the weather and stayed nearby while Juno returned to the soft tapping.
The road continued after Juno stopped listening. By morning, only one drop waited at the gutter. It fell—plink—and Rooftop Road was quiet.
Story workshop
Notice, talk, and play
Words to notice
- rhythm
- a pattern of sounds or movements
- gutter
- a channel that carries rain from a roof
- continued
- kept going
Talk about the story
- Which sounds did Juno hear?
- How did she organize them in her imagination?
- What safety support did Dad provide?
Try it together
Listen from a safe indoor place and tap one gentle weather rhythm. Stop if the sound feels uncomfortable and ask an adult for support.
Activities are designed for shared use. An adult should choose materials and supervision appropriate to the child.
