Pillow Hill Parade
A noisy animal parade finds a slower route from playtime to bedtime.

Read together at your own pace. Pausing, rereading, or stopping is always okay.
The toy animals were not ready for bed. They marched over Pillow Hill, trumpeted beside the blanket lake, and knocked over a cup of crayons. Ari’s body still wanted jumping even though bedtime had arrived.
Mum suggested a final parade with one rule: every animal moved more slowly than the animal before it. The elephant stomped, the bear padded, the rabbit tiptoed, and the snail barely seemed to move.
At the end of the route, each animal entered the toy basket. Ari’s steps changed with them—from stomps to pads to tiny toe taps. He placed the snail on top and whispered the last parade sound.
Pillow Hill became an ordinary pillow again. Ari’s body had not been ordered to stop like a switched-off machine. It had been given a gentle road from fast to slow.
