A Seat for Sam
Sam arrives late to music circle and uses one honest sentence to find a place.

Read together at your own pace. Pausing, rereading, or stopping is always okay.
When Sam reached music circle, every cushion looked taken. The song had already begun, and the gap by the drum seemed too small. Sam hovered behind the group, hoping someone would notice without making everyone look.
The teacher kept singing but pointed to an extra cushion stacked by the wall. Sam could fetch it, yet there was nowhere to put it. He practiced a sentence silently: “Could we make a little room?”
His first try was too quiet. On the second try, a child named Bea heard. She slid her cushion sideways, and two other children shuffled with her. A small space opened, then became just the right size.
Sam joined on the final verse. Later, when another child arrived after snack, Sam was the first to move his cushion. He knew that sometimes a place in the circle began with one honest question.
